City Council Library


SITE 3 I decided to take an outward looking approach to teacher-librarianship, connecting our students to the world outside school. The local Council library seemed an excellent place to start. Initially, I thought establishing links with the library would supplement our limited non-fiction collection. Completing 20 hours of work experience at a BCC library raised my awareness of the wide range of resources and services available through BCC libraries.

Library Priorities (5 hours 19 December 2008)

In this week’s meeting with the LIC, we discussed library priorities, including promoting the User Ed IT classes; emphasising on-the-job training; creating a balance of physical process work and automation; and maintaining home library services) 

The Brisbane City Council libraries prefer an on-the-job training model that aims to multi-skill their employees. Library staff advocate a achieving a balance of physical process work and automated processes.

Catering to a broad client base (5 hours - 17 December 2008)

On my first Wednesday at the BCC library I assisted with preparations for the visiting pantomime troupe, including setting up, greeting and seating, and head counting for audit purposes. Later I assisted with collection management by shelving fiction, biographies and non-fiction.
