Part of my final day was spent out the back learning how to process acquisitions. I also learnt the circulation desk processes related to accepting payment of fines and reserved item fees, making computer bookings, and processing 'in transit holds' and 'Nundah holds'. Reserved items are placed on the designated shelves in alphabetical order according to the members’ last names to facilitate quick retrieval by members. Members are automatically alerted by email when their reserved items reach the designated library. Then they have 14 days to borrow the item before it is put back into general circulation.

The public library systems are more extensive than those of the school library. A greater emphasis is placed on accurate shelving of books and maintaining a tidy uniform appearance. Cataloguing and covering of books is done centrally and the books arrive at libraries ready to be put on the shelves.
